The Old Priory Bed and Breakfast is in a Class B listed building which was built in 1796 by Henry Swan who was a writer and solicitor, as an office although the reason for the office has been lost in the mist of time. We are in the process of researching the origins of the house and the details will be posted on this site in due course. The Old Priory Bed and Breakfast is in a Georgian Town house on Woodmarket but backing onto Abbey Row with the Old Parish Church, the Abbey and Abbey grounds as neighbours. Sir Walter Scott's Great Grandfather was born in the building next door, and Sir Walter Scott stayed with his Aunt in a house just round the corner whilst going to school in Kelso. Our Bed and Breakfasts walled Garden provides off road parking and a haven in the town for our guests. Kelso is a vibrant town with events such as the Jim Clark Rally, Border Union Show, Civic Week, Regular Horse Race Meetings, British Motorcycle Federation Show and many more events throughout the year.

Kelso is situated just over 20 miles from the coast, making it easy to get to wonderful sandy beaches in Northumberland. Kelso is also a good base for exploring the Borders, Northumberland, Edinburgh and the North East of England.

Within easy reach of Kelso is also some outstanding historical sites such as Floors Castle, Smailholm Tower, The 4 Border Abbeys, Lindisfarne, Norham Castle, Mellerstain House and numerous other visitor attractions.

Dispensary House will be available for lettting from 1 Sept 09 following a complete renovation and refurbishment.

A superb, Grade 'B' listed, 18th Century townhouse of great historical interest, being the first hospital in Kelso and only the second in Scotland. The house is currently being fully renovated and will be refurnished to an extremely high standard throughout to provide spacious accommodation for seven guests over three floors.

The house has a great deal of charm and character and many delightful period features which will be returned to their former glory as part of the current renovations. It is in a delightful position on the banks of the River Tweed, boasting stunning views over the river to the rolling hills beyond.

Outside, the delightful, sunny garden is a lovely place to relax and watch the wildlife on the river or see the fishermen try their luck on the legendary junction beat which runs close to the bottom of the garden.

The picturesque town of Kelso lies at the junction of the Rivers Tweed and Teviot and was described by Sir Walter Scott as "the most beautiful, if not the most romantic village in Scotland." Today Kelso remains one of the most attractive and unspoilt towns in the Borders, with a Flemish-style cobbled square, a 12th Century abbey, the majestic Floors Castle and a graceful five-arched Tweed bridge, a model for London's Waterloo Bridge and the championship Roxburghe golf course.

The town has some interesting shops - a fabulous deli and butchers, excellent fish monger, woollen shops, country sports shops and an art gallery to name but a few - as well as a good selection of lively pubs and restaurants often with live music. As well as regular National Hunt Racing, Kelso hosts a number of interesting events throughout the year including the Borders Agricultural Show.
